Spiritual Perspective: Modern Trends in Infidelity Among Women
From a spiritual viewpoint, there are observable tendencies in how infidelity manifests among women in the present era.
During the Showa period in Japan, owning a detached house was considered the ideal “dream home,” and close-knit neighborhood interactions created a form of social restraint. The gaze of neighbors acted as a subtle check on behavior, including fidelity.
Today, with more people living in apartments—often influenced by media such as TV dramas—and reduced neighborhood connections, this social restraint has diminished, creating conditions where infidelity may become more likely. This applies to men as well, but women today exhibit some distinct characteristics in this context.
To understand this, it helps to consider basic differences in male and female psychology. Men tend to focus on being aware and actively pursuing their interests, while women tend to focus more on being noticed and recognized by others. These complementary dynamics naturally draw opposite genders together, like magnets.
Men generally direct their awareness toward their hobbies, work, and tangible aspects of reality, often prioritizing visible achievements. Women, in contrast, are more likely to invest energy in enhancing their own value in order to be recognized, which also heightens their awareness of their own inner world.
Spiritually speaking, this heightened self-awareness and sensitivity to the heart can influence choices and behaviors in relationships, including tendencies toward infidelity when external constraints—such as community oversight—are minimal.
Spiritual Perspective: Infidelity Among Women and Awareness of Their Value
From a perspective focused on the heart and relationships, certain patterns in women’s infidelity can be observed and may be easier to understand when viewed spiritually.
Many women who engage in infidelity do so as a reflection of their desire to be noticed and recognized as women. Conversely, women who feel unrecognized may be more prone to dissatisfaction or seeking attention elsewhere.
One underlying factor is social influence regarding gender equality. Some men mistakenly assume that women perceive the world in the same way men do. Additionally, male-targeted media, such as manga, often depict female heroines as delighting in the attention of the male protagonist. Such portrayals can reinforce the misunderstanding that women see the world from the same perspective as men.
As discussed earlier, women naturally desire to be acknowledged for their value. Spiritually, this desire often includes a subtle longing to be recognized by a man who represents their ideal—a “prince” figure—rather than by society at large or in the abstract sense of equality.
Even in a society that values gender equality, men often lack a deep understanding of female psychology. Ordinary male behaviors may be interpreted by men themselves as sufficiently attentive, but from the female perspective, they may fall short, leaving some women with latent dissatisfaction.
An example from real life involves a celebrity divorce caused by infidelity. Early in the marriage, the couple often played video games together. At one point, the husband asked his wife to level up a character while he went to work. Whether this caused dissatisfaction is uncertain, but spiritually, the husband’s focus was on his own interests—being aware and engaging with the game—rather than on nurturing his wife’s heart.
Online discussions about women’s infidelity often mention factors such as the appearance of attractive men, dissatisfaction with a partner, monotonous routines, a partner’s own infidelity, or the need to confirm one’s own feminine appeal. Spiritually, all of these factors reflect a common theme: a desire to be recognized as valuable and cherished as a woman.
In other words, in times when men may not fully understand female psychology, a man who consciously acknowledges a woman’s value and treats her with gentle care can fulfill this desire. While infidelity remains ethically undesirable, the spiritual perspective highlights that women’s hearts respond naturally to recognition and emotional attunement.
