Why does “slander” continue unabated? “Spirituality”

Why does slander and defamation never seem to stop? From a spiritual perspective, this question can be explored in depth.

Some may feel that an ideal world would be one in which slander does not exist at all. In fact, there are certain ethnic groups where slander is virtually absent, and they live as peaceful communities. Within such groups, even minor conflicts—such as something like a game of rock-paper-scissors—are avoided because of their fundamentally non-confrontational values.

However, in capitalist societies, competition is inevitable. And from competition naturally arises conflict, from which slander and defamation easily appear. In this sense, the existence of slander in such systems may be understood as almost inevitable.

In recent times, awareness of slander and defamation has risen, and compared to the past, it may not be as frequently observed. Yet historically, there were many instances where rival companies would deliberately spread slander with the intent of bringing down their competitors.

Why does “slander” continue unabated? “Spirituality”

For example, saying something like, “The food at that cafeteria is terrible and the service is bad,” is a form of slander.

Even today, such tendencies may remain as a way to undermine or put someone down.

From a spiritual perspective, there are ways to stop slander, but in the current society, it is difficult to prevent. This tendency is especially strong in Japanese society.

Looking at the comments on Yahoo! News, some people point out even a single kanji mistake, while others simply share their opinion based on the article’s content. Yet, when someone responds to such a comment with slander, shouldn’t that seem strange or inappropriate?

The unstoppable nature of slander, in relation to stress and spiritual rank, can be examined from a spiritual perspective.

Psychologist Sigmund Freud proposed the pleasure principle, noting that even in activities such as eating, sleeping, or relieving oneself, people experience a certain degree of pleasure, and humans naturally seek this pleasure.

In extreme terms, one could say that “a sense of existence” = “pleasure”, meaning that when a person feels happiness, they simultaneously feel a strong sense of existence and strong pleasure.

Not being able to feel one’s own sense of existence is not just a lack of awareness; because the body and mind influence each other, it can trigger stress as a kind of life-threatening signal.

Stress responses put a person in a state of either attack or escape toward the source of stress, both of which require energy and also generate energy in the mind and body.

In other words, behind slander may lie a person’s desire to assert their existence and seek their own pleasure.

Conversely, it also reflects a state in which one struggles to feel a genuine sense of existence or inner pleasure in everyday life.

Regarding soul growth, as discussed repeatedly on this blog, the development of knowledge comes from each individual realization, and the growth of the heart, or spiritual rank, similarly comes from each heart-centered realization.

When spiritual rank rises, one’s spiritual presence strengthens, the ability to fulfill others’ hearts through creativity increases, and the more realizations one has, the broader one’s perspective becomes. This is not a difficult concept—it is about becoming spiritually mature.

A low spiritual rank means weak spiritual presence; people tend to prioritize satisfying their own hearts over fulfilling others, and with fewer realizations, their perspective narrows. This is not difficult to understand—it is akin to being spiritually childlike.

Therefore, a low spiritual rank correlates with weak spiritual presence, heightened stress, and a stronger tendency for the desire to assert existence to manifest as slander.

Those with low spiritual rank may also adopt a passive attitude, seeking validation and recognition, which can appear as the desire inherent in slander to have their presence acknowledged.

The unstoppable nature of slander and the possibility that it may increase in the future can also be examined from a spiritual perspective.

In spiritual teachings, it is said that the overall energetic quality of the Earth is gradually shifting from male-dominant energy to female-dominant energy.

This shift is not like a black-and-white switch that flips suddenly; rather, it is a gradual process, like the relationship between the sun and the moon, affecting the entire planet regardless of gender.

The female-dominant energy is still only in its early stages, and the youthful feminine energy tends to express contrasting emotions such as joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure. This can manifest in society as polarization, contradictions, inconsistent decisions, and waves of instability.

Men tend to suppress and control their mental energy, which makes both their mind and body tend to become rigid. Women, on the other hand, tend to release and express their mental energy outward, making both mind and body more flexible.

Changes occur more easily in what is flexible rather than rigid, and the era has now entered a period of rapid change driven by female-dominant energy.

In other words, as male-dominant energy weakens in the future, the ability to suppress impulses diminishes, and the outward-releasing power of female-dominant energy may make slander more likely to appear from a spiritual perspective.

Currently, in the context of Russia under President Putin invading Ukraine, there are also reports of heartless slander against Russians living in Japan.

In summary, in present-day Japan, there seems to be no way to completely stop slander.

A world where people genuinely praise one another would naturally generate pleasure, and unless such a world arrives, it is unlikely that slander can be fully stopped.
