The relationship between left-handedness and psychic abilities
Regarding the relationship between being left-handed and spiritual sensitivity, from a spiritual perspective, the two are not completely unrelated. However, it cannot be said to be an absolute connection. I will explain this topic, including the reasons.
First, it is important to clarify a common misunderstanding about spiritual sensitivity.
Many people tend to think of spiritual sensitivity as a special ability, but in fact, everyone possesses it. It should be noted that spiritual sensitivity (reikan) is different from spiritual power (reiryoku).
Spiritual sensitivity is something that everyone inherently has. It is the ability to sense the hearts of ghosts, higher-dimensional beings, and humans alike.
There is also the idea that the depths of all people’s hearts are fundamentally connected, extending into the spiritual world, which is the world of the heart.
For example, spiritual sensitivity can manifest in small ways, such as sensing a person’s unique aura when shaking hands with them. This is a subtle expression of the ability to feel the heart—a small function of spiritual sensitivity.
Regarding spiritual sensitivity, even Wikipedia describes it as a special ability. Many people tend to believe it is a special power because they do not understand that it is actually the ability to sense the heart. This misunderstanding is understandable.
The left and right hemispheres of the brain function differently. The left brain is skilled at constructing language, logical reasoning, calculations, and comparisons. It is better suited for perceiving the visible, physical world and tends to work in a more analytical, “science-oriented” manner.
The right brain, on the other hand, excels in rhythm in music, visual recognition, intuition, and sensing overall atmosphere. It is better at perceiving the invisible aspects of the heart and tends to function in a more artistic or “humanities-oriented” way.
Ideally, a balance between the two hemispheres is desirable, but humans are creatures that seek value, and imbalances are likely to occur. As a result, differences in thoughts and values emerge more easily.
The left brain controls the right side of the body, and the right brain controls the left side. Therefore, left-handed people tend to have a more active right brain, which can enhance their ability to sense the heart.
However, in Japan, education tends to place high value only on each piece of knowledge, which emphasizes intellectual understanding. Being left-handed does not automatically mean a person has a heightened awareness of the heart.
Still, with the right awareness, left-handed individuals may be able to enhance their spiritual sensitivity to perceive the heart more than right-handed people.
Since most people are right-handed and place higher value on analytical knowledge, left-handed individuals may more easily demonstrate special talents and be perceived as geniuses.
As discussed in this blog, the growth of the soul and knowledge occurs through each individual insight, and spiritual growth (reikaku) is similarly the result of each insight of the heart.
When spiritual growth increases, one’s existential strength in a spiritual sense rises, the ability to fulfill the hearts of others grows, and the wider the awareness of the heart, the broader one’s perspective becomes. This is not a difficult concept—it is simply what it means to be spiritually mature.
Low spiritual growth means weak existential strength in a spiritual sense. People tend to prioritize satisfying their own hearts over fulfilling the hearts of others, and their limited awareness results in a narrower perspective. This is not a difficult concept—it simply indicates spiritual immaturity.
One might assume that left-handed individuals are naturally more aware of the heart, and therefore spiritual growth would occur more easily through each insight of the heart.
However, this is not necessarily the case. A person may be highly self-aware while having little interest in the insights of others, which can result in low spiritual growth.
Therefore, among left-handed people, extreme differences between individuals with high spiritual growth and those with low spiritual growth may appear more frequently than among right-handed people.
Left-handed individuals may be envied by others, but this is not necessarily a fortunate trait. Imbalance is more likely to appear, and a weaker “inner structure” may make it difficult to maintain stability, much like a person struggling to balance on a narrow beam.
