From a Spiritual Perspective: Is Marriage Necessary?

From the outset, the answer is not absolute—it cannot be said definitively either way.

This discussion is not about marriage in terms of leaving descendants, but rather from a spiritual perspective.

In spirituality, the growth of the soul is highly valued, and whether marriage is necessary depends on whether it contributes to that growth.

Traditionally, societal views on marriage suggested that once a person married and had children, they were considered a fully-fledged adult. This was a social norm in previous generations.

Today, however, we live in an era where individual freedom in lifestyle is respected, and the traditional view of marriage may be seen as outdated.

As discussed repeatedly in this blog, soul growth mirrors knowledge growth: each insight gained is a step in knowledge, and similarly, each insight of the heart represents spiritual growth.

As one’s soul level rises, existential power increases, the ability to fulfill the hearts of others through creative acts expands, and the broader the awareness of the heart, the wider one’s perspective on life.

This is not a complicated idea—it simply means spiritually, one becomes mature.

From a spiritual perspective! Is marriage necessary?

Having a low soul level means that one’s existential power is weak in a spiritual sense. Such individuals tend to prioritize fulfilling their own heart over fulfilling the hearts of others. With fewer insights of the heart, their perspective on life also tends to be narrower. This is not a complicated idea—it is simply being spiritually childlike.

Through marriage and raising children, it is possible for a person to experience growth in their soul. Each heartfelt insight gained in the process can naturally lead to an increase in soul level.

This is one spiritual argument for why marriage can be meaningful.

However, it is not only through child-rearing that a person gains such insights. Life itself and interactions with society can also offer opportunities for growth.

The worst situation is a life without any heartfelt insights, where the same days are repeated over and over without learning or growth.

For example, returning from work to watch entertainment programs that leave no lasting memory, or spending weekends in gambling that leaves nothing remembered—this kind of life does not contribute to soul growth and leaves no meaningful imprint on one’s existence.

Spiritually, it is said that the overall energy of the Earth is gradually shifting from male-dominant energy to female-dominant energy.

This shift is not sudden, like a switch flipping on and off. It is gradual, like the relationship between the sun and the moon, and it affects everyone regardless of gender.

Female-dominant energy is still in its early stages. In young women, emotional energies such as joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure—often opposing forces—are more easily expressed. This can manifest socially as polarization, contradictions, inconsistent policies, or wave-like fluctuations.

Men tend to control and restrain their emotional energy, which can make both mind and body rigid. Women, on the other hand, tend to express and release their emotional energy, which makes both mind and body more flexible.

Change occurs more easily in flexibility than rigidity, and the rise of female-dominant energy signals the beginning of an era marked by rapid change.

Male-dominant energy values tangible, material things, while female-dominant energy tends to value the intangible aspects of the heart.

Events such as the COVID-19 pandemic may have provided people with opportunities for heartfelt insights, revealing the value of inner awareness.

From a spiritual perspective, this means that in the future, opportunities for insights of the heart will continue to arise. Marriage is not the only path to soul growth, and as society evolves, the necessity of marriage as a requirement for spiritual development may naturally decrease.
