My spiritual powers have disappeared! Characteristics of modern times! Spirituality
“Lost spiritual sensitivity”! A feature of the modern era! From a spiritual perspective, there is a story I’d like to share. In the past, someone came to me saying that their spiritual sensitivity had disappeared. They shared that after experiencing intense stress, the emotions they had once sensed from animals vanished.
From a spiritual viewpoint, there is insight to be gained from this story. But first, I will share my own experience of “losing spiritual sensitivity.”
In the past, I was thinking about the best method for remembering things.
The method I came up with was a conditioned reflex approach, memorizing thoroughly based on triggers—essentially, responding automatically when a certain cue appeared.
The method proved effective, allowing me to memorize efficiently.
However, when someone scolded me, I could understand that I was being reprimanded, but no emotional response arose at all.
It felt as if I had become a lifeless robot, and I experienced fear, realizing that this method was dangerous and caused the loss of spiritual sensitivity.
After that, I completely stopped using this memory method.
For some people, while studying for exams or similar tasks, they might experience a robotic sense like mine, and come to feel that their spiritual sensitivity has disappeared.
“My spiritual powers have disappeared.” “Spiritual powers” refer to the “left brain” and “right brain” and “spirituality.”
The topic of “losing spiritual sensitivity” can be understood through the lens of spirituality and the functions of the left and right brain.
Many people do not truly understand spiritual sensitivity and may think it is some special ability.
In reality, spiritual sensitivity exists in everyone. Ghosts have consciousness, “higher-dimensional beings” have consciousness, and people themselves have consciousness—it is the ability to sense the hearts and minds of others.
There is also the concept that all hearts are connected at a deep level, which further links to the spiritual world.
For example, when you shake hands with someone, you might feel a unique personal aura. This is a small manifestation of spiritual sensitivity, the ability to sense another’s heart.
Thus, when someone says their spiritual sensitivity has disappeared, it means their ability to sense the hearts of others has weakened or vanished.
The left brain is adept at language construction, calculations, logical reasoning, and comparisons—it tends to process the visible, material world and functions in a more “analytical” way.
The right brain, on the other hand, excels at rhythm, imagery, intuition, and sensing overall atmosphere—it is more attuned to the invisible, emotional world, functioning in a more “creative” or “empathetic” way.
Ideally, both hemispheres are balanced, but humans tend to favor certain values, which can create imbalances and differing perspectives.
If someone overly emphasizes left-brain, analytical thinking, the right-brain ability to sense hearts and emotions may weaken, making symptoms of lost spiritual sensitivity more likely to appear.
“My spiritual sense has disappeared,” ‘stress’ and “defensive instincts,” “spirituality”
The phenomenon of “losing spiritual sensitivity” can also be understood in relation to stress and the fight-or-flight instinct from a spiritual perspective.
The psychologist Sigmund Freud proposed that whenever humans eat, sleep, or relieve themselves, they experience some degree of pleasure, and that humans are fundamentally driven to seek this pleasure—a principle he called the pleasure principle.
In an extreme sense, “sense of existence” = “pleasure”. Feeling happiness also brings a strong sense of existence and a strong sense of pleasure simultaneously.
When one cannot feel a sense of existence, it is not merely the absence of that feeling. The human body and mind influence each other, and the lack of existential recognition can trigger stress as a survival response.
The stress response places a person in a state of choosing either attack or escape against the source of stress. Both responses require energy, which also mobilizes physical and mental energy.
However, in many situations, one may neither be able to attack nor escape. In such cases, the body’s maximum defensive instinct often activates.
If the body moves, one may be exposed to danger, so the body may respond by becoming heavy and sluggish to remain still. External stimuli disturb the mind and may provoke physical reaction, so the body works to block external stimulation.
As a result, the ability to sense others’ hearts and emotions—spiritual sensitivity—may weaken, leading to symptoms of lost spiritual sensitivity.
Currently, it is said that younger generations are becoming more emotionally fragile, and thus, stress may increasingly cause the loss of spiritual sensitivity.
